Yen - nice grub

Yen - Oriental and Tappanyaki Restaurant

Went to Yen during the week, the food was great and it was a really nice treat for me and my partner.

We were on our way back from Christmas shopping in Glasgow city centre (are we off our heads?) and the M8 motorway was pretty busy so we thought we would try driving down the Clydeside expressway instead, that was a mistake and a half thought.

The traffic just at Finliston and the SECC was not shifting at all and after about 40 minutes of not moving we decided to come off to go and get some dinner for a few hours instead of sitting in the traffic going absolutely nowhere fast.

We drove around near the Crowne Plaza Hotel area and decided that we would head into Yen, (good decision) for a bit to eat, I had been in North Rotunda years ago with my parents on a few special occasions, it used to be a really nice Italian restaurant.

We ordered some muscles from them menu to start the food coming as we were starting to get a bit food grumpy, the musles were not that great and half of them were unopened and could not be eaten, the service was great.

I chose the Thai Green curry with boiled rice and it was super dooper tasty, my partner always seems to end up with the bum deal and her dinners never seem to be as good as mines... not that I am complaining...lol)

We sat and chatted a bit and stuffed our faces, then started thinking about heading off up the road after a very nice night out. I would recommend it to anyone, I would like to dine downstairs next time I go in the Tappanyaki restaurant where the food is all prepared in front of you... mmmm yummy!

Oh and I think next time I would book a table, unless it was unplanned again.

Glasgow Science Centre Visit – good fun day out

Today I took my wee girl and my niece to the Glasgow Science Centre for a visit… Here’s how the day went…

The drive up was surprisingly fast considering every man and his dog were heading up to shop just for the Christmas rush (mad house). We were planning on going to the Carnival at the SECC but the for a bit but I took the wrong road at the last minute and ended up crossing the new road bridge just next the Crowne Plaza Hotel and SECC that takes you just over next the the BBC building and the SMG building (I think).

We thought we may be able to go the Glasgow Science Centre as well as the Carnival at the SECC but there was far to much to do at the Science Centre for the Kids plus it was quite an expensive day out too.

The Kids seemed to have real good fun with most of the stuff in the science centre; they played away well and had a right good laugh to themselves. I also enjoyed it too, I had a good day out with the girls and they had nice big smiles on their faces (most of the day).

I managed to loos my wee girls scarf, hat and my nieces cardigan, got most of it back though but not the scarf (so if you see a stripy kids scarf please hand it in, she was upset with me for being a numpty heed).

One of the reasons that I wanted to take the kids to the science centre was to go up the Glasgow tower, but for some reason it was closed, they did not explain it very well, I am not sure if it was a mechanical fault or if they close it for maintenance or if they close it in certain weather conditions. It would have been nice to have a wee explanation.

We paid £20 odd pounds to visit the place then they charge you for using the car park as well, I think that is a bit of a con, but maybe I am just a bit of a skin flint (I don’t mind paying for stuff, I just think that for an average family it would be a very expensive day out).

I was pleased with the overall day at the Glasgow Science Centre and I would recommend it to people to take their kids along and explore.

Glasgow Science Centre

I took my wee girl to the science centre about 4 years ago (2001) and she was just a young thing, she played away a wee bit but I think the stuff was just that bit too much aimed at older (only slightly older) kids. I really enjoyed getting out for the day and it was a treat from my brother.

I had been dropping my partner off at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow Hotel last week and I looked over at the science centre and the Glasgow Tower and thought I should take a visit soon, but because it is so close to Christmas I will probably wait until February so that I have enough money to take my wee girl and my partner without not having enough to get in the door. If I can remember right it can be quite an expensive day out, but worth the visit.

I like the look of the ‘climate change show’ from the leaflet and hope to go along soon.

Hotel Crowne Plaza Glasgow

I was dropping my partner off at a training thing for her work recently and I was well impresses by the development of the area around the River Clyde in Glasgow, I was taken aback by all of the changes that have taken place there over the past ten years and how the area looks now. Some people may not be that impressed but even just in ten years it has developed so much, it all used to be a bit of an eye sore.
.
I was only dropping her of at the Crown Plaza Glasgow so I have never stayed there, (if you have you could leave a comment) but she said that the food was amazing… She likes her food and knows a good meal when she gets one so I take it as red that it was a good bit of grub.

Below are the contact details for the contact details for the Crowne Plaza Hotel Glasgow and a bit of information on how to get there.

Address:

Crown Plaza Glasgow, Congress Road, Glasgow, G3 8QT

Email: cpglasgow@qmh-hotels.com

Tel: +44 (0)870 4431 691

Fax: 0141 221 2022

Direction to the Glasgow Crown Plaza:

RAIL: Once you are in Glasgow it is about 1 mile from Glasgow Central Train Station and about 1.5 miles from Glasgow Queen Street Train Station. I would jump in a taxi from either to be honest unless you have a bit of time and the weather is good.

Air: Glasgow international Airport is about 8 miles away, but in rush hours it takes a fair amount of time to get to the Glasgow Crowne Plaza Hotel from here. Glasgow Prestwick Airport is about 32 miles away from the Crowne Plaza Hotel Glasgow (along the M77 Motorway).

Road: Exit Junction 19 of the M8 motorway (from the North or South – any direction that means… tee hee) and follow signs for SECC (Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre). The hotel is right next to the river Clyde side of the SECC on congress road. There is parking for hotel patrons just past the hotel.

Helicopter: There is a helipad at the rear end of the SECC in Glasgow which is adjacent to the Crown Plaza Hotel, It would be fun to zoom in on a helicopter and take a stole over to your hotel. I am not sure if you can get private flights into the helipad but I am sure you can rent or charter a helicopter to see some of the sites across Glasgow and the west of Scotland.

Glasgow Airport (Paisley) - GLA

Most people coming to Glasgow (or Scotland for that matter) arrive via Glasgow Airport (In Paisley, Renfrewshire)... Transport links to Glasgow, Paisley and the rest of Scotland are pretty good.
Plans are in place for expansion of Glasgow Airport plus the possibility of a rail link through Glasgow and into Edinburgh.
With the Recent Terror attacks on Glasgow Airport the terminal building is restricted to authorised vehicles being parked next to it to prevent a similar event from before.
.
.
.
.
There are cheaper flights from Glasgow all over Europe and the Rest of the world. (but it would be nice to see people use flights less often due to the amount of pollution that flying causes).

Hard Fi Concert at the Barrowlands

Hard Fi at the Barrolands Glasgow the other night was quite a good night, I may have had a better night if I did not have a massive hangover from being out the night before.

I did not get the backing bands name but they were pretty good, I liked the DJ guy who filt in the gaps as well...

There were a few people there having a right good night to themselves... It was funny though being in the barrowlands without the place being all 'smokie' everywhere... The last time that I was in (ages ago) was to see Iain Brown in concert...

I was given the tickets from a cool couple who I thank loads for the opportunity to go.. cheers.

2007 Festive Market (Sat 24 November – Sun 23 December 2007)

The festive market at George Square and Argyle Street is worth a wee visit, it makes a change from all of the large stores and lets you get into the Christmas spirit. They have mulled wine and sausages... its worth it just for that... lol

The Festive market at George square reminds me of a market in Germany that we visited on travels around Europe this year on the train, I cant remember what city we were in at the time (may have been Frankfurt).

Let us know what you think of the festive market! would you recommend it to a friend?
