Glasvegas at T in the Park 2008
Many were surprised that the 'T in the Park' organisers had put Glasvegas on in the Futures stage at TITP this year as they are getting so well known and have a great following, it was well crammed in that wee tent.
Outside the futures tent me and my partner gave up even trying to get in as the crowds were far to busy for the futures tent, they were trying to do one in one out but eventually some folk just went mental and started throwing there way in... flying under the gaps in the tent at the bottom, jumping the fences and running by the few security guys that were there to be seen...
It sounded like an amazing gig though, Glasvegas took the place on and made many people's days, I think... they played their part in a great T in the Park.
Well done Glasvegas!

Quality Central Hotel - Glasgow
The Quality Central Hotel is based in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, just minutes from the main shopping areas in the city.
The hotel is tucked away in the (corner at the) Gordon Street entrance to Glasgow Central Train Station, above the station. The location offers great transport links to almost anywhere in the west of Scotland accessible by rail and is close to the vibrant city centre night life.
Why not check to see if you will be staying at the Quality Central Hotel when the property auction is on.

Glasgow House Auction - Central Hotel Glasgow
A few weeks back me and my partner decided to go to our first ever property auction to find out more, get the experience and learn more about property markets.
The auction was held at the Quality Central Hotel in Glasgow Central Station.
It was great to see the change in the property market over the past few months, we are in a downturn, a buyers market... but for some time many people have been in denial, much of the organisations such as banks and estate agents don't want to admit that there is a housing slow down... so they go on trying to get more and more people to buy, even though the market is on its way down.
The property markets that were on sale at the auction in the quality central hotel, Glasgow were clearly struggling, the number of properties that sold that day by auction was clearly less than the estate agents and auctioneers wanted and had hoped for.
The opportunity is there for people to invest for the longer term by buying property from motivated individuals who need to sell quickly, Glasgow and surrounding is not that different from the rest of the UK at the moment in relation to the property market slow down and downturn.

Merchant Square - Bar Square
We went into Bar Square in the Merchant Square a few months back (with a hangover I might add) for a meal and a shandy (or two).
The meal was fantastic and the staff were very helpful and friendly as well, on this occasion Bar Square was really worth the money for our hangover curing grub and pint.
I have only eaten in Bar Square once but I will go back one day and I would recommend it too.

Merchant Square Fire Alarm - Thursday 20th March 2008
It is funny when you are in a building and the fire alarm goes off and for some strange reason not one person moves an inch... what a weird thing to do!
We were in O'neils at the merchant square in Glasgow yestarday and the fire alarm went off and all we were worried about was if we would be able to get another round of drinks in...
Me and a mate from uni got a bit of food in O'Neils in the merchant city and it was not that great... I realise that it is just the old bog standard pub grub, but my mates dinner looked like something the cat had spewed up... nay offence tay the staff but it was truly minging...
I on the other hand had a meal that was OK(ish) but I would not write home about it... It was enough to soak up the first few pints... then some more.
When the alarm went off we headed accross the road to The Blackfriars pub... one of the doods got the real ales (and two out of three of them tasted pretty good), after that we headed to some pub up one of the lanes in glasgow, we also ended up in the Social and the other O'Neils at george Square... but the memories of that are not as clear.
The taxi diver from the rank (just outside Glasgow Central Train Station) refused to move without me giving him £40 of my money... it is an absolute joke, I know that some guy must have bumped him in the past, but there is no reason at all for them treating everyone like a criminal... It really pulled my chain... whit are they all about and why do they think thay can talk to people like something they have just scrapped off of the sole of there smwlly wee trainers?
I had jumped in a taxi earlier on in the night and the guy was brand new, so it is a shame that some drivers are numpties and it reflects on the whole company... I am not sure if asking people for payment is even allowed by taxi driver... I know that the line will be 'well they are just making sure that you pay them' but I truly could not give a monkies if they guy has been didled (is that a real word?) before... I wonder if they make everyone from anywhere outside Glasgow pay up front.... belter.

The State Bar! Comedy in Glasgow
Saturday night was spent in the State Bar Basement (23rd Feb 2008) in the extreme heat of the place watching some great comedy.
The crowd was made up with about 20 percent of people that I knew and other faces that I had seen in the comedy nights in Paisley at the Arts Centre.
The headliners name totally escaped me (sorry mate, no offence intended, I just have a mince memory... I will get it later and post it in the comments page). He was pretty good and done a nice job of the 'muppet' heckler... I laughed my wee head off... it was a great night out, something a bit different for a change.
I was told to look out for Sean Grant by a friend and funnily enough (pardon the pun) he was there, I liked the guy's stuff, but I think the crowd were a bit less subtle than his material was aimed for... (again no offence intended).
The 'wee man' was doing his thing as well, he was pretty good, got a few sneaky jokes in that were close to the bone.
The venue is small and intimate and I really liked the place as a comedy venue, everyone in our crowd seemed to have a good laugh (especially one of them 'big d', you know who you are...lol)
I will look out for those guys again in the Glasgow Comedy Festival this year as well as the fringe in Edinburgh.
Aye, the compare guy was pretty good as well, I had seen him before, also in Paisley Arts Centre one Thursday night... he plays the not so camp 'gay guy'... and got tore into a few of the guys that were mad enough to sit at the front.
I will definitely head back to the State Bar in Glasgow for another night of comedy one time. Probably not go up stairs for a drink though as some nonce went and tried to start a fight with one of the people from our group and the bar staff decided that we were at fault (for some reason)... it puts you off a bit, just in case you end up in the cells for a night cos of some other guy starting a fight with everyone.
Happy Laughing!

The Stand - Are you having a laugh?
Fancy a night out and getting slagged off for sitting too close to the stage?
We have had a good few nights out in the Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow (also one in York Place Edinburgh), and some of the acts have been well worth the visit, there have been one or two that I was not impresed with but the misses maybe enjoyed... so on the whole it has been pretty good.
If you are heading along to the stand then make sure you call in advance and have a look in the Glasgow List or the comedy clubs own site to see who is on that night.

Glasvagas - New Sounds From Glasgow
'The best thing to come out of Scotland in 20 years...' [reported to have been said by Alan McGee - the guy who discovered Oasis]
I just listened to (and watched) the Glasvagas video at http://www.glasvegas.net/ and I love the song... It is the first time I have heard Glasvagas but I like it, a lot.
Have a look (and listen) and let us know what you think. You might want to have a look out for them on myspace too.
The Glasvagas single 'Daddy's Gone' was rated number 1 in the NME single's (I heard...) and Steve Lamacq from Radio 1 pointed out that "they are the hottests unsigned band in Britain"... as my brother points out that is pretty good going coming from Steve Lamacq.

Move to Glasgow!
Glasgow is a growing international city with ever increasing numbers of cultures and variety of people from many different walks of life, Like any city in the world Glasgow has its own issues, but on the whole it is a vibrant location in the UK.
Glasgow has a great night life with loads of pubs, clubs, reteraunts and cafes dotted all over the city. Many free museums and galleries that are well worth a visit and loads of parks and gardens accross the city too.
The cost of living in Glasgow can vary as with any large city, with more expensive accomidation towards the centre of the City (unless you can get a cheeper hostel room) and the less expensive accomidation towards the outskirts or surrounding towns and villages such as the largest town in Scotland, Paisley.

Ubiquitous Chip - Ashton Lane Glasgow
Glasgow - Ashton Lane - Ubiquitous Chip
We like to go up to the West End of Glasgow, up Byres Road and Ashton Lane. We went to Ubiquitous Chip in Ashton Lane, both the food and the service were great. I like a good restaurant and I really enjoyed my meal in the Ubiquitous Chip. We started with the mussels and I had a nice full bodied red wind, when we normally go out for food I generally end up having the best meal out of the both of us, she normally makes a ‘gastronome’ error.
For main course I had (I can’t quite remember)...
I could not stuff anymore food down my throat so I did not opt for anything from the desert menu, I think she chose the hot chocolate and she loved it as far as I remember (I may have made this up in my mind, I am not quite sure).
Glasgow has some great restaurants to offer and I have frequented many of them over the years, but the Ubiquitous Chip on this occasion was great and one of the best meals that I have had in ages.

If you really want to get on someones goat in Glasgow
All you have to do is ask a Black Cab (Taxi, Hak) to drive you from Glasgow Central Train Station to Glasgow Queen Street Station... Even in your friendliest voice and in your best manners... they will still look at you as though you have just landed from the moon... (even if the rain is pelting down and you have a gammy ankle)... Cheers, wee lazy taxi man...
I had an injury recently and asked a taxi driver to take me out of the rain and to an appointment as I was late... and he refused to take me, that has happened on a number of occasions in Glasgow (probably happens all over the place)...
Is is pretty close, in fact if I was not injured I would not have bothered asking him for a lift... I must have looked as though I was going to rob him of all of his money...
The fact is that the taxi driver looses his place in the rank cue and has to start all over again... if you were going for a 10 mile tip then it is worth his time but... I would have tipped him well, but he does not know that at the time I suppose...
I now try and avoid using Black Cabs anywhere in the City just because of a few crabit drivers I have had... but most of the guys are cool enough. (just in case I have to get a taxi one night and the driver has read this blog... woooops)

Corinthian Glasgow - Bar, Piano Bar, Food and Club
The Corinthian in Glasgow is a pretty posh looking bar at Ingram Street, just across from one of the cruise shop and I think the Versage shop. The building looks amazingly impressive from both the outside and inside. The place is really well kept and looks pretty cool.
There is a main bar which is very spacious (it is huge), the bar sits in the centre of a beautiful room and seems to charge above the average for the city centre.
There is a piano bar on the right as you enter and the main bar is strait through the back, as well as a club upstairs (I think). We were in the Corinthian to celebrate Neil’s 40th Birthday. The toilets are a fair bit away down the stairs.
I had quite a good night, it was a bit pricey though and probably because of the time of year (just after New Year) it was pretty quiet too, the company was pretty good too, and there was a good mix of people there.
I really like the look of the Corinthian in Glasgow but it is just such a large open room with huge high ceilings that it takes away from the atmosphere a bit. I looked at other reviews on the internet and it scored just above average, but I suppose you never really know what people are into who have left comments and a rating on a web site...

New Year at Arta
We had a good night for the bells, taking us into the new year in the Red Room in Glasgow's Bar, Club and Restaurant Arta. The night went pretty well, meet loads of people from ages ago and caught up with a few folk we see a bit more often. If you look closely at the photo of the Red Room on the left you can spot one of the lamp shades that loads of folks used as a hat for a bit... (lol).
The bar was pretty hard to get served at all night because there was only one guy serving in our bar... (just before the bells we missed being served a drink when the bar shut without warning for ten fifteen minutes to see the bells in). The buffet was really tasty and I want to go back for food there one day soon, I really got tucked in... (yummy)
It was a good enough night though... the music was a mix of stuff and I had quite a good jig about at one point. There are a few photo's of one and all on a number of people's Bebo pages...
Unfortunately our camera battery had died before we even got the the Craig Dhu in Paisley to catch the mini bus up.
