More comedy in Glasgow at the State Bar just off Sauchiehall Street!
Saturday night was spent in the State Bar Basement (23rd Feb 2008) in the extreme heat of the place watching some great comedy.
The crowd was made up with about 20 percent of people that I knew and other faces that I had seen in the comedy nights in Paisley at the Arts Centre.
The headliners name totally escaped me (sorry mate, no offence intended, I just have a mince memory... I will get it later and post it in the comments page). He was pretty good and done a nice job of the 'muppet' heckler... I laughed my wee head off... it was a great night out, something a bit different for a change.
I was told to look out for Sean Grant by a friend and funnily enough (pardon the pun) he was there, I liked the guy's stuff, but I think the crowd were a bit less subtle than his material was aimed for... (again no offence intended).
The 'wee man' was doing his thing as well, he was pretty good, got a few sneaky jokes in that were close to the bone.
The venue is small and intimate and I really liked the place as a comedy venue, everyone in our crowd seemed to have a good laugh (especially one of them 'big d', you know who you are...lol)
I will look out for those guys again in the Glasgow Comedy Festival this year as well as the fringe in Edinburgh.
Aye, the compare guy was pretty good as well, I had seen him before, also in Paisley Arts Centre one Thursday night... he plays the not so camp 'gay guy'... and got tore into a few of the guys that were mad enough to sit at the front.
I will definitely head back to the State Bar in Glasgow for another night of comedy one time. Probably not go up stairs for a drink though as some nonce went and tried to start a fight with one of the people from our group and the bar staff decided that we were at fault (for some reason)... it puts you off a bit, just in case you end up in the cells for a night cos of some other guy starting a fight with everyone.
