There are a few nice pubs in the Merchant Square in Glasgow and I have never seen one bit of trouble there (not even once).
The vibrant square has a number of bars and restaurants including the Beer Cafe, Bar Square, The Coffee Merchant, El Sabor, Metropolitan, Sizzlers, Moldos and O'Neils (which for some reason they don't mention on the merchant square web site!).
Location
The Merchant Square is situated on the joining of Ingram Street, Candleriggs, bells Street and Albion Street.
